ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. is set to deploy its High-Speed Downlink Packet Access solution in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom after signing a deal with T-Mobile International AG. The technology will give T-Mobile’s customers data speeds up of 1 to 2 megabits per second.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Deploying the Nokia leading-edge HSDPA solution will enable us to offer true mobile broadband access and new services to our customers,” said Joachim Horn, technical director at T-Mobile Germany and head of the international planning and engineering leadership team. “We will start the rollout of HSDPA in Germany in 2006 and then extend it to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.”
Robin Lindahl, vice president of Nokia Networks, said, “Nokia is very pleased to supply T-Mobile with this exciting new technology evolution of W-CDMA. “This deal is a good example of the successful cooperation that is taking place between Nokia and T-Mobile in the field of high-speed mobile access and broadband applications.”
T-Mobile said it serves about 80 million customers in nine markets.
