Eatoni targets baby boomers with e-mail software

NEW YORK-Software developer Eatoni Ergonomics Inc. has developed a new e-mail application aimed at helping older mobile-phone users more easily send and receive e-mails.

Eatoni Mail reduces the number of keystrokes used to type on a telephone keypad, and users can increase the font size to 24 points, which is comparable with text styles in large-print newspapers and books. The software runs on the BREW platform and uses Eatoni’s LetterWise predictive text solution, which requires about half as many keystrokes as typical multitap formats, said the company.

“There is an entire segment of mobile-phone consumers with enormous buying power who want to see phones made less complicated,” said Howard Gutowitz, chief executive officer of the company. “Baby boomers don’t need all of the bells and whistles associated with many new phones; they just want an easy-to-use device.”

Version 1 of the software works in English, Spanish and Russian.
