U.S. Cellular adds Hispanic content

CHICAGO-U.S. Cellular Corp. became the latest carrier to court the Hispanic market, announcing a deal with the wireless arm of media company Univision to provide Latin content and Spanish-language wireless services to its subscribers.

The Tier 2 operator added a new category, “En Espanol,” to easyedge, its suite of data applications. Several new applications, including ringtones, news, games and wallpapers, are offered through the partnership with Univision Movil.

U.S. carriers are increasingly eyeing the Hispanic market as they ramp up wireless data offerings. Hispanics spend 25 percent more per month on cell-phone service than other users, according to U.S. Cellular.
