TEL AVIV, Israel-T-Com, the fixed line unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, is running a WiMAX field trial, offering wireless broadband services to about 100 German customers previously unreachable by traditional DSL services.
T-Com is using Alvarion’s WiMAX-ready BreezeMAX 3500 system for the trial, which is scheduled to run through March 2006. Alvarion’s base stations have been deployed in Swisttal and St. Augustin near Bonn, Germany, to provide wireless broadband services. Siemens AG is serving as systems integrator and maintenance supplier.
T-Com is one of Europe’s largest broadband networks, serving more than 6 million small businesses and 700,000 residential customers.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
