HP to supply Wi-Fi gear in Tennessee, Florida cities

PALO ALTO, Calif.-Franklin, Tenn., and St. Cloud, Fla., have signed agreements to use Hewlett-Packard Co. equipment for their metro-scale Wi-Fi projects.

HP said the deal includes its iPAQ Pocket PC, ProLiant servers, consulting and integration services, financial and support services, and the HP OpenView management software platform.

In Franklin, the solution will include broadband access for the city’s police and fire departments, while in St. Cloud, HP is expanding an initial Wi-Fi hot spot to provide access across the city.

HP has forged alliances with Tropos Networks Inc. and Aptilo Networks AB, whose products are part of both cities’ Wi-Fi network solutions.
