MIAMI-Hispanic-focused operator Movida Communications Inc. continues to expand, announcing plans to move into 20 more states later this year.
The mobile virtual network operator said it will distribute its prepaid service through Wal-Mart Stores Inc. stores and other outlets in Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Georgia and North Carolina and more than a dozen other states. Movida began selling its wares out of Wal-Mart locations in the Southwest earlier this year.
Movida, which is majority-owned by the Cisneros Group of Companies, sells wireless voice and data services on Sprint Nextel Corp.’s network.
Earlier this week, IDT Corp. said it will vie for a share of the Hispanic wireless market with a competing service. Dubbed TuYo Mobile, the offering will use an undisclosed carrier’s network when it launches later this year.
