Vodafone plans to release 15 W-CDMA handsets for holiday season

LONDON-European giant Vodafone Group plc said it will have 15 W-CDMA handsets available for the holiday shopping season, including six at “entry-level” price points. Ten of the devices will be exclusive to Vodafone. The carrier boasted that all of the phones will feature smaller and lighter designs, longer battery life, and new, faster services.

“A significant proportion of the range is targeted at mid- to entry-level price points, encouraging the mass market adoption of Vodafone Live! with 3G,” said Peter Bamford, the carrier’s chief marketing officer. “We are confident that this is going to be a 3G Christmas.”

Among the phones Vodafone will sell:

  • The Sharp Corp. 903, which features a 3.2-megapixel camera;

  • The Toshiba Corp. 803, which is Vodafone’s first music-dedicated phone;

  • The Motorola Inc. RAZR V3x;

  • And the Nokia Corp. N70.
