MRM market to exceed $2B by 2009, says study

LOS ANGELES-The market for mobile resource management systems could reach more than 5.8 million units by 2009, with annual hardware and service revenues exceeding $2 billion, according to a new report from C.J. Driscoll & Associates.

Today, nearly 1.9 million global positioning system-based wireless devices are used to monitor fleet vehicles, trailers, construction equipment and mobile workers, said the report, “2005-06 Mobile Resource Management Systems Market Study.” Market growth will be fueled by low-cost reliable wireless data networks, the incorporation of GPS location as a core component of field-force automation and transportation/logistics applications, and a growing demand for monitoring mobile assets, said the firm.

In addition, the study said the fastest growing segment of the MRM market will be the use of GPS-equipped cellular phones and other portable wireless devices to manage mobile workers.
