PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago-Caribbean wireless carrier Digicel said it expects to invest more than $190 million in its mobile telecommunications operations in Trinidad and Tobago.

L.M. Ericsson is supplying the network equipment for the GMS/GPRS network.

“We are planning to make an immense impact on the quality and standard of mobile telecommunications in the Trinidad and Tobago marketplace,” said Sinead O Marcaigh, chief executive officer of Digicel Trinidad & Tobago Ltd.

Digicel said it would create up to 400 local jobs within the organization in addition to suppliers and contractors, which could account for five times the number of employees.

Digicel has plans to create a seamless pan-Caribbean wireless network with enormous benefits for the region.
