Zed re-launches content biz in U.S.

MIAMI-Mobile value-added services developer Zed announced plans to re-launch service in the United States next month.

Zed’s origins go back to LaNetro, which was founded in 1996 as a mobile-content company in Spain. In 2004, LaNetro acquired all of Zed, which before that was a subsidiary of Scandinavian mobile operator TeliaSonera. The combined company assumed the Zed name.

Zed USA has been offering services in the United States on a trial basis for two months. The company’s launch will include an advertising campaign targeted at the youth market, featuring spots on MTV, Fuse and other media.

The company said its services now are available on Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s and Sprint Nextel Corp.’s networks and will expand to other carriers later this year.
