Boost Mobile unveils hybrid plan

Sprint Nextel Corp.’s youth-oriented prepaid service Boost Mobile L.L.C. unveiled its Boost Premium Plan hybrid plan that combines the no-contract or credit check features of its traditional prepaid service with the reduced per-minute pricing and unlimited extras of contract calling plans.

Boost said the new offering is available for $50 per month and includes unlimited nationwide walkie-talkie calls, unlimited night and weekend calling, 200 anytime minutes, unlimited wireless Web access and unlimited text messaging. Customers do not have to sign contracts, but they must provide either Visa, Mastercard, American Express or debit cards that will be billed every month.

Boost’s traditional prepaid service charges 20 cents per minute for daytime cellular calls, 10 cents per minute for night and weekend calling, $1.50 per day for unlimited walkie-talkie calls, 10 cents for each text message sent or received, and 20 cents per day for unlimited wireless Web access.

Boost’s service uses Sprint Nextel’s iDEN network.
