The wireless Internet is coming to European users in a big way this week, as two European operators launched high-speed mobile Web services.
T-Mobile U.K. aggressively is pursuing wireless Web surfers by expanding its “Web’n’walk” service, which uses Google as a home page instead of offering a typical carrier portal. The offering eschews garden walls in favor of open Internet browsing, and the carrier plans to roll out eight new handsets to support the service by Christmas. T-Mobile first launched “Web’n’walk” in Germany earlier this year.
Meanwhile, O2 became the 13th operator worldwide to introduce NTT DoCoMo’s patented i-mode offering, launching the service in Ireland. In addition to Web browsing, the service includes e-mail and video messaging and allows users to search for jobs and shop online. Users can browse any of 80 custom sites.
