PALM BEACH, Fla.-Directory information services provider 422 Inc. launched a free wireless offering for college students.
The service, dubbed 422me Student Connect, allows a user to send a text message with the name of both a school and the person being contacted. The offering delivers a mobile-phone number and e-mail address of registered members and allows students to connect with a mobile call, text message or e-mail.
Users also can access college departments such as security or the library.
422, which hopes to gain traction as an “opt-in” directory assistance service for wireless users, is backed by venture capital firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ Gotham and Motorola Ventures.
“(422me) is just the first step as we expand our wireless directory and information services to other market segments in the near future,” said Dean Becker, chairman and chief executive officer of 422.
