ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it has completed a mobile WiMAX data call and will begin WiMAX trials in 2006.
“This is an important step in our WiMAX development work, and we are very encouraged by the results,” said Markku Hollstrom, general manager of the broadband wireless business program of Nokia’s Networks division.
Nokia said the call was made between computing and baseband modules as part of the company’s 802.16e WiMAX development program, which plans to offer portable network mobility.
The WiMAX IEEE 802.16e version is expected to be standardized later this year.
