WATERLOO, Ontario-Research In Motion Ltd. launched its Blackberry Mobile Data System, which the company said supports Web service application development.
The product includes a visual development tool that uses an XML-based architecture, which the company said allows system integrators, software vendors and corporate developers to create wireless applications quickly.
The product is available as an upgrade to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0.
“BlackBerry MDS is a full data mobilization platform that enables developers to create wireless applications that leverage the secure, push-based BlackBerry architecture,” said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-chief executive officer of RIM. “BlackBerry MDS with support for Web Services now gives developers an additional option for creating applications, in addition to existing browser and Java options. It abstracts complexity from the application development process, reducing the amount of time and specialized skills required to create and deploy wireless applications.”
