SAN DIEGO-Handset vendor LG Electronics Co. Ltd. opened a new 38,209-square foot headquarters in San Deigo that will serve as the hub for its North American operations. The company said the building will house its research and development, sales and marketing and engineering activities.
“As LG continues to increase market share in North America, we believe this move marks yet another growth phase for our business,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics MobileComm, the U.S. mobile phone business of Seoul-based LG Electronics.
Indeed, LG has enjoyed a stellar ride since entering the U.S. mobile phone market in 1998. The company recently stole the No. 2 market share position away from rival Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., according to research and consulting firm Strategy Analytics. LG’s market share in the United States was 20.1 percent in the third quarter, behind the 34.4 percent share of market leader Motorola Inc.
