Digicel closes on Cayman Island deal

GEORGETOWN, The Cayman Islands-Caribbean wireless provider Digicel Group said it completed the acquisition of Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s operations in the Cayman Islands. Digicel noted that plans were under way to provide former Cingular customers with full access to Digicel’s product and service offerings as well as integrating Cingular’s network with Digicel’s operations.

The Cayman Island deal was part of a larger agreement reported in June that called for Digicel to acquire Cingular’s Caribbean and Bermuda operations, which it inherited when it purchased AT&T Wireless Services Inc. last year. Digicel is still waiting approval for its acquisition of Cingular’s properties in Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
