Alcatel, IPWireless team for TD-CDMA in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia-NetZAP said it has awarded a contract to Alcatel Corp. for commercial expansion of netZAP’s trial UMTS TD-CDMA network in Jakarta using equipment from IPWireless Inc. In order to cover a large portion of Jakarta, netZAP said the network expansion is set to add 150 to 200 infrastructure sites.

In addition, netZAP said it expects the network to be completed before the end of the year with services scheduled to begin in January 2006.

“We are pleased with the performance of the technology and more importantly, the response from our trial customers, hence our decision to expand the network,” said Andre Halim, chief executive of netZAP. “We are confident that Alcatel, with its close partnership with IPWireless and experience in working with the UMTS TD-CDMA technology, is the right partner for this expansion and can meet our target for service launch in January 2006.”

PT. Solusi Aksesindo Pratama is a wireless broadband company providing netZAP’s instant mobile broadband service in Indonesia. The company was formed in 2004 and, upon securing its telecom provider license and spectrum allocation, has been trailing the IPWireless UMTS TD-CDMA technology culminating in this network expansion.
