Jamster working with Melodeo on music downloads

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-VeriSign Inc. said its Jamster subsidiary is working with Melodeo Inc. to develop a digital music platform that will support full-track music downloads.

Verisign noted that Jamster was reviewing Melodeo’s MobilDRM digital rights management product, which has been approved by four music labels for protecting downloadable music.

“We chose to work with Melodeo because music labels have endorsed their technology and because of the need in the mobile marketplace for digital rights protection,” said Mahi de Silva, senior vice president of VeriSign Communications Services.

Jamster, which sells content directly to consumers via short codes and Internet storefronts, last month launched a worldwide rebranding effort and simplified its subscription pricing plans. The company had faced claims that it deceptively sold subscription services to young wireless users.
