Verizon Wireless snags Ga. counties contract

ATLANTA-The Association County Commissioners of Georgia endorsed Verizon Wireless as the preferred wireless provider for county governments across the state.

ACCG and Verizon Wireless announced an agreement today under which Verizon Wireless will offer an undisclosed “attractive discount” on monthly access to county government employees, and in return ACCG will endorse Verizon Wireless as a carrier and promote the February 2005 Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) contract with Verizon Wireless among Georgia’s 159 county governments. That contract included a cooperative purchasing option that allows county governments to pool their resources with the state government to receive greater discounts on products and services from Verizon Wireless.

According to a statement from the two parties, the partnership is seen as a way for the state to develop economic growth by expanding technology outside of metro areas, matched with Verizon Wireless’ ability to provide voice and data services. The carrier said it has invested more than $330 million in its wireless network in Georgia over the past two years.
