Businesses to spend more this year on wireless than wireline

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-Businesses will spend more on wireless voice services than they do on wireline services for the first time this year, according to new research from In-Stat.

Wireless data services are also expected to make inroads. The firm predicts enterprise spending on wireless data will grow about 18 percent per year through 2009. The small-office/home-office category is forecast to outspend all other business categories on wireless data services, growing from $470 million last year to almost $2.2 billion in 2009, said In-Stat.

“The transformation of telecom spending continues unabated,” said Bryan Van Dussen, an In-Stat analyst. “The relentless march toward IP-based networks, the unequivocal adoption of mobile solutions, and the pervasiveness of broadband have changed the face of business networks forever.”
