.11n standard likely to be ratified next week

DENVER-The line in the sand between Airgo Networks Inc. and backers of the Enhanced Wireless Consortium may be washed away if the IEEE adopts the Joint Proposal Team’s first draft of the 802.11n standard for high-speed Wi-Fi.

The IEEE’s Joint Proposal team is set to submit its proposal at the task group’s meeting next week in Hawaii, where the standards specification for faster Wi-Fi is expected to garner the required 75-percent approval from member voters.

“Airgo believes this is an extremely positive development for the industry because it marks the return to an open forum process where broad-based industry discussions will lead to a ratified IEEE 802.11n standard,” the company said.

The EWC also said it was hopeful the standard would be adopted.
