TeleCIS, FyreStorm and Spotwave announce VC funds

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Venture capital funds continue to roll over the wireless industry, with two chip companies and an antenna vendor announcing the latest in fundraising.

First up, WiMAX chipmaker TeleCIS Wireless Inc. announced it raised $10 million in its third round of funding. The round brings the company’s total VC war chest to $18.7 million. ATA Ventures led the round, along with an undisclosed “strategic corporate vendor.”

“We believe WiMAX is poised to become a leading broadband wireless technology, and the TeleCIS market strategy and chip designs for both portable and mobile WiMAX devices are a generation ahead of the pack,” said Hatch Graham, managing director of ATA Ventures.

TeleCIS develops chips for both the fixed and mobile versions of WiMAX. The company develops chips for WiMAX base stations and devices.

Separately, chip vendor FyreStorm Inc. announced it raised $25 million in its third round of funding. Worldview Technology Partners led the round.

FyreStorm develops power management and power conversion chips for the consumer electronics industry, including mobile phones. The company said its products will replace the industry’s current reliance on analog solutions for power management, thereby increasing battery life.

Finally, Spotwave Wireless announced an additional $10 million in funding. The company said its existing investors participated in the round, as well as new investor Motorola Ventures.

Spotwave develops indoor antennas designed to increase wireless coverage. The company’s products are used by a range of North American carriers.
