BASKING RIDGE, N.J.-Verizon Communications Inc.’s new enterprise unit, Verizon Business, unveiled an integrated wireline/wireless offering that include wireless broadband access from its Verizon Wireless subsidiary.
This is the first product announcement for Verizon Business. Most of MCI Inc.’s former assets were rolled into Verizon’s enterprise unit-formerly Verizon Enterprise Solutions Group-when the Verizon-MCI merger closed earlier this month. The collection of Enterprise Mobility products are based on MCI’s remote access suite, and Verizon Business also is seeking to leverage Verizon Wireless’ CDMA2000 1x EV-DO network by touting wireless broadband as a secure mobile backup for times when companies’ primary networks are disrupted. Other products include managed services, data and IP networking, Voice over IP and IT services.
A company statement claimed that the new offerings demonstrate “an immediate realization of the Verizon/MCI merger’s promise to deliver more innovative, new solutions to the business marketplace.”
Verizon Wireless claims its EV-DO network provides throughput speeds of between 400 and 700 kilobits per second and covers more than 150 million potential customers.
