$70 Bratz-branded phone hits Wal-Mart shelves

LOS ANGELES-Move aside Barbie, Bratz now have their own mobile phones.

MGA Entertainment-the company behind the Bratz “fashion dolls”-announced it will sell a Bratz-branded mobile phone through select Wal-Mart locations nationwide. The phone is a rebranded Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. T290 and features Bratz-branded ringtones, wallpapers and screen savers.

The phone sells for $70 with a prepaid service plan of 50 pre-loaded minutes. Additional minutes cost 20 cents per minute. MGA teamed with mobile virtual network enabler Ztar Mobile to develop the offering, dubbed Bratz Mobile.

The offering is the latest in a growing collection of branded, niche wireless offerings. The Bratz phone is also indicative of a growing trend of companies selling wireless products to children.
