Go2 reveals 24M search user sessions in year

IRVINE, Calif.—Mobile search provider go2 said it delivered more than 24 million unique user sessions in 2005, marking a 51-percent increase from its 2004 usage figures.

Wireless users viewed more than 210 million pages of local information from go2 last year, the company said; popular search categories included movie listings, restaurants, accommodations and other travel-related categories. Go2 also delivered more than 50 million ad impressions last year from marketers including American Express, Jamdat Mobile Inc., Progressive Insurance and Volkswagen.

The numbers provide a rare glimpse into the uptake of mobile search, which has seen a flurry of activity in recent months. Go2’s competition on the crowded playing field include fellow pure-play providers 4INFO, JumpTap and Medio Systems; Internet and mobile content provider InfoSpace Inc. and Web giants Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc.
