MURRAY HILL, N.J.—Lucent Technologies Inc. gave its corporate controller, John Kritzmacher, the nod to succeed Frank D’Amelio as chief financial officer. D’Amelio left Lucent’s CFO post up for grabs when he became Lucent’s chief operating officer in January.
Kritzmacher has been a rising star as Lucent’s controller since 2001, leading the company through tough times as it restructured itself and reduced about $5 billion in yearly operating expenses, the company said. In his new role, Kritzmacher will assume responsibility for all of Lucent’s financial operations, including corporate accounting, external reporting, financial planning, treasury, tax and investor relations. In addition, Lucent said Krtizmacher will also oversee internal audits, real estate issues and mergers and acquisitions.
“John’s proven talent and leadership were instrumental in helping the company through a difficult period in our history and returning us to profitability,” stated Patricia Russo, chairman and chief executive, whom Kritzmacher will report to.
