RadioShack joins Brightstar, others in phone-buying consortium

FORT WORTH, Texas—RadioShack Corp. reported plans to team with three other phone resellers to form a purchasing alliance that the companies said will resell more than 50 million phones a year.

Brightstar Corp. of the United States, European distributor Dangaard Telecom and Middle Eastern retailer Axiom Telecom round out the consortium, which collectively expects to reach $10 billion in revenues this year. The alliance, which will be called Braxda Telecom, hopes to leverage complementing geographic markets and act as a sole point of contact for handset manufacturers.

The companies plan to share best practices in an effort to increase operational efficiencies, and openly solicit new members.

“The founding companies are excited about the potential for this new alliance, and we are actively seeking high-growth companies in the wireless arena to join us in this venture,” said Faisal al Bannai, Axiom’s chief executive officer. “Increasing the reach of the alliance will benefit both consumers and manufacturers.”
