The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
- Ukraine: Nokia Corp. and Ukrainian mobile operator Astelit extended their existing frame agreement calling for Nokia to supply a new GSM/EDGE radio network expansion project. The extension is valued at $75 million.
- France: Orange France launched a network trial based on HSDPA technology provided by Nortel Networks Ltd. in Lyon, France.
- Japan: eMobile selected L.M. Ericsson to provide W-CDMA/HSDPA equipment, including W-CDMA 1.7 GHz radio networks in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, and a complete nationwide core network.
Wi-Fi
- United Kingdom: U.K. transport company National Express launched a trial of Telabria’s mSystem mobile Wi-Fi hot spot system for its coaches that travel between London and Cambridge.
- United States: SkyPilot Networks and MetroFi have been selected by the city of Aurora, Ill., to build a citywide Wi-Fi network. MobilePro Corp. said Cox Communications selected it as the wireless subcontractor for its state of Arizona carrier services project. MobilePro will provide Wi-Fi and wireless broadband services for the project.
WiMAX
- India: VSNL deployed Aperto Networks’ PacketWAVE system in more than 65 cities across India.
- Indonesia: Indonesian operator Citra Sari Makmur said it is expanding its existing deployment of WiMAX equipment from Aperto Networks. The deployment will take place in stages and culminate in the transition of CSM’s currently installed base of Aperto’s PacketWAVE equipment to its PacketMAX equipment.
- Poland: Crowley Data Poland selected Redline Communications Inc. to provide a WiMAX system for the company’s citywide WiMAX network in Krakow.
Miscellaneous
- Germany: Nortel Networks said it was selected by T-Mobile International to expand the carrier’s wireless core network with new capabilities designed to connect the operator’s commercial UMTS wireless network with Wi-Fi networks.
- Italy: Ericsson said it signed a 10-year managed services agreement with electricity distributor Acea to manage and develop the company’s automatic meter reading system, which will be deployed in Rome for 1.5 million households.
- Japan: Sonus Networks said it has been selected by KDDI to supply equipment for the carrier’s convergence-enabled packet voice network, including replacing its entire legacy network infrastructure.
- Kosovo: Motorola Inc. said its Canopy wireless broadband platform has been deployed in Kosovo with KPS and UNMIK, which implemented a private encrypted Voice over Internet Protocol network using the Canopy platform for the Kosovo Police Service/United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo.
- United States: LGC Wireless said it is deploying its InterReach Unison in-building coverage solution for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
