Powerwave Technologies Inc. said it deployed a multitechnology, multicarrier wireless coverage system for the Chicago Transit Authority.
In cooperation with Aldrige Electric, Powerwave installed its fiber-based indoor distributed antenna system along 11.4 miles of subway tunnels. The system enhances the CTA’s existing two-way radio system and improves redundant subway communication options for the agency as well as for the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Fire Department, said the company.
Powerwave said the system also will accommodate commercial services, allowing customers to use their cell phone on subways.
The company said it has deployed its antennas in other transit system projects in Germany, Chile, Belgium, Russia, China, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Sweden.
