HELSINKI, Finland—Slice Wireless and U-Turn Media Group have partnered to acquire Finnish mobile software developer Oplayo.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Oplayo’s platform enables the delivery of streaming video over cellular networks to mass-market phones. The company offers a mobile video player, and its portfolio includes more than 3,000 video clips.
Slice, an Australian publisher of mobile video and multimedia content, officially acquired Oplayo with help from U-Turn. The two companies hope to integrate Oplayo’s technology with their own on-device portal software.
“Oplayo technology will allow us to combine our existing, interactive on-device-portal interface with a smoother, more unified, video delivery feature that will increase handset compatibility,” said Dominic Bignall, U-Turn’s chief executive officer.
