Dobson treks out to Deadhorse, Alaska

OKLAHOMA CITY—Dobson Communications Corp. said it launched service in Deadhorse, Alaska.

The launch extends the carrier’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network into the North Slope region along the coast of the Arctic Ocean, an area that contains one of the major petroleum reserves in Alaska. Deadhorse serves as headquarters and a staging area for companies that serve the North Slope oil fields.

Dobson, the primary carrier in Alaska, announced plans to bolster its Alaskan presence last month with the purchase of wireless assets in Nome and Kodiak.
