PLEASANTON, Calif.—Wireless entertainment company FunMail Inc. announced the acquisition of Zapptrio Inc., a developer of location-based applications for mobile phones.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Zapptrio, which had been owned by a U.S.-based subsidiary of Japan’s Mitsui & Co., produces wallpapers, ringtones and location-based games. The move marks an entry into the LBS space for FunMail, which is looking to expand its portfolio to include community-based games and other entertainment offerings.
FunMail said it will retain key personnel from its new acquisition, but the Zapptrio name will be phased out as the two companies integrate their businesses.
