AOL to sell Internet access over Clearwire’s wireless broadband network

DULLES, Va.-AOL L.L.C. is teaming with Craig McCaw’s Clearwire Corp. to offer high-speed wireless broadband access.

The service, which is available starting for $26 a month, has been deployed in three mid-sized Clearwire markets in California and Florida. Subscribers can access the Internet using licensed spectrum while in Clearwire coverage areas via a wireless modem.

“This truly complementary relationship offers customers access to AOL’s premium safety and security features and content with a simple, fast wireless connection,” said Ben Wolff, Clearwire’s chief strategy officer.

Clearwire currently offers service using a pre-WiMAX standard in 29 mid-sized markets across portions of Alaska, North Carolina, Florida, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida and Idaho.
