RESTON, Va.—Covad Communications Group Inc. reported a deal to use Nextlink Wireless Inc.’s spectrum to deploy wireless Ethernet services targeted at small- and medium-sized business customers.
According to the two companies, Covad initially plans to offer broadband wireless service within its existing network in the Los Angeles metro area using Nextlink’s licensed 28-31 GHz spectrum. The agreement allows for an expansion into 11 additional markets, including New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Dallas; Miami and Seattle. Covad sells its services in 44 states and is headquartered in San Jose, Calif.
“The alliance with Nextlink is important to our market strategy. We will significantly boost our strength in the business space, while Nextlink benefits from the use of its wireless assets,” said Charles Hoffman, Covad’s president and chief executive officer.
Nextlink is a subsidiary of XO Holdings Inc.
