SHENZEN, China-Chinese telecom manufacturer ZTE Corp. announced it signed a contract to build a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network in Mongolia for Skytel, which is the largest CDMA wireless operator in that country.
The company gave no details about when the network would launch, but indicated that the Rev. A network would serve subscribers in “a number of Mongolia’s major cities.” Yujia Zhao, marketing director for ZTE’s Mongolia office, described the upgrade to Rev. A as relatively simple, with Rev. A modules being added to the current 1x network.
“There is no need to make any change to the [radio frequency] modules or the antenna feeder system,” Yujia Zhao said. “This will minimize construction and maintenance costs for the operator while providing a firm foundation on which to build a sustainable wireless broadband market in Mongolia.”
ZTE said it expects users to experience uplink speeds of up to 1.8 megabits per second and downlink speeds of 3.1 megabits per second.
