TCS sues WiderThan, Mobile 365 over patent infringements

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—TeleCommunication Systems Inc. said it filed a lawsuit against Mobile 356 Inc. and WiderThan Americas Inc. claiming the companies infringed on its patents.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

TCS alleges the companies infringed its patents having to do with routing inter-carrier messages addressed to recipients using just a phone number. The company is seeking both an injunction and monetary damages.

In a statement, WiderThan said it doesn’t believe TCS’ lawsuit “has merit,” and said it will defend itself “vigorously.” Mobile 365 did not immediately provide a response to the lawsuit.

WiderThan provides mobile entertainment solutions for wireless carriers. Mobile 365 is the combination of InphoMatch and Mobileway. The company specializes in delivery, clearing and settlement of mobile messaging services.
