Weekly infrastructure awards wrap-up

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular

  • Japan: eMobile selected Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. as a key 3G equipment supplier for the rollout of its UMTS and HSDPA networks.

     

  • Lithuania and Latvia: L.M. Ericsson said it has been chosen to upgrade Bite Group’s 3G network with HSDPA capability in Lithuania and to build an HSDPA-enabled W-CDMA/UMTS network in Latvia for the carrier.

     

  • United Arab Emirates: Motorola Inc. said it won a network expansion and optimization project with Emirates Telecommunications Corp. to enhance the carrier’s network in the Northern Emirates.

     

  • United States: Nortel Networks Ltd. secured a contract with Verizon Wireless to supply CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network technology.

WiMAX

  • United States: Futura Technologies said it has deployed a WiMAX network in Miami, Okla.

Miscellaneous

  • Canada: Proxim Wireless Corp. said it deployed its Tsunami.GX high-speed microwave point-to-point system for 15 facilities within the Buffalo Trails Public Schools system in Alberta.
