DragonWave scores Earthlink Wi-Fi backhaul deal

OTTAWA—Canada’s DragonWave Inc. said it won a contract to supply EarthLink Inc. with wireless backhaul solutions for use between wireless base stations and the core of EarthLink’s municipal Wi-Fi networks.

DragonWave explained that its AirPair product operates within both licensed and unlicensed radio frequencies in the 11 GHz to 38 GHz range, which the company says ensures interference-free performance. The company said EarthLink will deploy the solution in the backhaul layer of its wireless networks.

“The advantages of a single interference-free IP network combined with the advantages of GigE wireless mesh backhaul meet exactly the requirements for the Municipal Networks,” stated Peter Allen, president and chief executive officer of DragonWave.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
