WESTCHESTER, Ill.—Andrew Corp. said it has been elected as a member of the TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance.
The alliance includes about 25 companies and government agencies that are promoting commercialization of China’s homegrown TD-SCDMA technology.
Andrew said it has a significant presence in China, including manufacturing facilities, research and development centers and sales branches. The company said it employs more than 3,000 people in the country.
The worldwide wireless industry is currently holding its breath to see what becomes of TD-SCDMA. The Chinese government has yet to issue 3G licenses to the country’s wireless operators, and it’s unclear exactly how TD-SCDMA will play alongside W-CDMA and CDMA2000 1x EV-DO in the country’s 3G licensing and deployment.
