Cellular
- Austria: Hutchison 3G said it is using equipment supplied by Siemens Communications to further build its W-CDMA network, which currently covers about half the population of Austria.
- China: Nokia Corp. announced it won a GSM core network contract with Hunan Mobile Communication Co. Ltd. The agreement calls for Nokia to supply MSC Server mobile softswitch equipment in four cities in Hunan Province.
- Isle of Man: O2 subsidiary Manx Telecom has selected Lucent Technologies Inc. to provide IMS equipment for the carrier and increase its wireless network capacity.
WiMAX
- Japan: Motorola Inc. said it reached an agreement with Softbank Group to deploy a WiMAX trial network in Tokyo.
- Russia: Aperto Networks said it shipped its PacketMAX products to Avalcom, a reseller and systems integrator in Russia. Aperto said Avalcom has lined up nearly a dozen carriers across Russia for pilot projects and trials during the next three months.
