RESTON, Va.—Sprint Nextel Corp. said it won a $1 million settlement in its case against data broker 1st Source Information Specialists Inc.
Sprint Nextel secured a permanent injunction against the company in March.
The data broker issue came to a head earlier this year when news broke that Internet data brokers were using fraudulent means to secure customer cell phone calling records. The companies were selling the records over the Internet. The revelation prompted a flurry of lawsuits and official investigations.
Sprint Nextel filed lawsuits against three companies engaged in data brokering activities. It reached a settlement and permanent injunction against All Star Investigations Inc. in June, and its case against San Marco & Associates is pending.
