SHENZHEN, China—ZTE Corp. said it is entering the North American market via a deal to provide 3G data cards to Canada’s Telus.
The Chinese vendor said it already has shipped its first batch of CDMA EV-DO data cards to the carrier.
“As 3G terminal products enter the Canadian market, the company has laid a solid foundation to explore the North American markets,” said Ye Weimin, vice president of ZTE. “We have a long term strategy for Canada and the shipment of EV-DO data cards to the country is the first step of in-depth cooperation between ZTE and Telus.”
The news is notable as ZTE’s fellow Chinese vendor, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., recently announced an infrastructure deal with Leap Wireless International Inc.
