AeroScout launches Wi-Fi/RFID chip

In other Wi-Fi news, AeroScout Inc. announced the launch of its enhanced Wi-Fi-based active RFID chip, the T2 Tag, which is used primarily for asset-tracking in the healthcare and manufacturing industries. The company’s latest enhancements to the T2 include a built-in temperature monitor and motion sensor.

AeroScout introduced its Wi-Fi-based active RFID chip along with the company’s MobileView software about three years ago, providing industries with the means to use their Wi-Fi network infrastructure to seamlessly track assets and employees whether they are indoors or outdoors.

The company said “tens of thousands” of its chips are being shipped out each month, each with battery life of at least 4 years. While the T2 chips are fully compatible with Cisco Systems Inc. Wi-Fi networking equipment, AeroScout noted that its chips are based on Wi-Fi standards and will work with virtually any Wi-Fi equipment on the market.
