SUNNYVALE, Calif.—Yahoo Inc. launched an expanded Go for Mobile service, extending its software to devices running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile operating system.
According to a company spokesperson, the Go for Mobile software had previously been available in the United States only on one model of Nokia Corp. phone at Cingular Wireless L.L.C.
Yahoo Go for Mobile is a suite of services that includes Yahoo Mail, Search and Photos that allows users to access their personal, Internet-based content on their mobile phone.
The next step for Yahoo, according to the company, is to embed the software on devices rather than having users download the software. A Yahoo spokesperson said that the company had an agreement with Motorola Inc. to pre-install the software into certain phone models, further expanding Yahoo’s reach. Yahoo is seeking a similar agreement with Research In Motion Ltd., the maker of BlackBerry smart phones that hold top market share in the United States.
