LOS ANGELES-Rhino Entertainment is targeting Generation X wireless users with content from classic children’s television shows from the 1970s and `80s.
The division of Warner Music Group unveiled Krofft Mobile, a suite of ringtones, ringback tones, video ringers and images based on programs from noted producers Sid and Marty Krofft. The brothers were responsible for a string of irreverent hits including “H.R. Pufnstuf,” “Land of the Lost,” “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters,” “The Bugaloos” and “DynaGirl.”
The Kroffts created 17 television programs and are currently developing a “Land of the Lost” movie slated to star Will Ferrell. Rhino plans to launch an aggressive, cross-platform marketing campaign to support the mobile offerings, including promotional inserts in Krofft DVD titles.
The mobile content will be available on the Internet or via a short code.
“Mobile content is about personalization, so we’re really looking forward to the opportunity to allow wireless subscribers the ability to reconnect with their past, as well as turning on a whole new generation of kids to the amazing world of Krofft entertainment,” said David Dorn, Rhino’s senior vice president.
