KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.—InterDigital Communications Corp. has been awarded $134 million in past royalties, plus interest, from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. on Samsung’s sales of GSM and GPRS/EDGE phones from 2003 to 2005, according to an international arbitration tribunal.
The tribunal, operating under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce, also established royalty rates to govern further payments covering Samsung’s relevant phone sales in 2006. According to InterDigital’s estimates, that could trigger another $17 million to $21 million in royalty payments in the first half of this year.
InterDigital announced that it would file suit to enforce payment of the tribunal’s judgment. Samsung, based in Seoul, South Korea, does not comment on legal proceedings.
InterDigital’s stock fell 2 percent after the news.
The ruling comes shortly after InterDigital won a similar award from Nokia Corp.
