WASHINGTON—The Senate Commerce Committee approved the nominations of Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin and acting National Telecommunications and Information Administration head John Kneuer.
The nominations now await action by the full Senate, which is expected confirm both appointees.
On a related front, the Consumer Electronics Association said its president, Gary Shapiro, was appointed to a federal advisory committee created to help NTIA develop reforms recommended in the Bush spectrum-policy initiative. However, NTIA, a Commerce Department unit that advises the White House on telecom policy, has yet to officially announce the composition of the advisory committee. NTIA sought nominations for the spectrum management advisory committee last October.
A CEA spokeswoman said Shapiro received a letter inviting his participation on the committee.
