Weekly infrastructure awards wrap-up

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular

  • Brazil: Lucent Technologies Inc. said it has been chosen to support Vivo’s network upgrade efforts by providing support and maintenance services for the carrier’s CDMA2000 network.

     

  • Malaysia: Motorola Inc. said it won a contract with Celcom Berhard to expand and upgrade the carrier’s existing GSM 900/1800 network with GPRS and EDGE capabilities in the eastern Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.

     

  • New Zealand: L.M. Ericsson said it has been chosen as the exclusive provider to build and integrate TelstraClear’s W-CDMA/HSDPA network in Tauranga.

     

  • Peru: Nokia Corp. said has implemented a complete GSM core network for Telefonica Moviles Peru, including its mobile softswitch MSC Server System.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Brazil: Embratel, a long-distance carrier in Brazil, selected Nortel Networks Ltd. to upgrade its fixed wireless network with CDMA2000 1x technology.

     

  • Europe: TP Ferro, a Spanish and French railway consortium, said it will use GSM-R technology from Nortel Networks on its new high-speed Figueres-Perpignan line being built between Spain and France.

     

  • Japan: Takamatsu City Shopping Arcade, a Japanese shopping mall, is trialing Nortel Networks’ wireless broadband technology to provide mobile Internet access, Voice over Internet Protocol and smart card transactions.
