The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
- Australia: Telstra said it launched an HSDPA network using equipment provided by L.M. Ericsson.
- Europe: T-Mobile International is using picocells from ip.access to bolster its European GSM network.
- New Zealand: Nokia Corp. said it provided HSDPA technology to Vodafone for its 3G broadband network in the country.
- Norway and Denmark: Ericsson said it has been selected by Telenor to supply a complete packet core network for both 2G and 3G data traffic.
- Turkey: Nokia said it signed a three-year frame agreement with mobile operator Avea to deploy its MSC Server 3GPP-compliant mobile softswitch to help the carrier modernize its network.
- Vietnam: Lucent Technologies Inc. said it has been chosen by EVNTelecom to provide equipment for its phase III CDMA450 network expansion contract.
Wi-Fi
- United States: 5G Wireless Communications Inc. said it has completed a Wi-Fi network deployment at Monmouth University in New Jersey.
WiMAX
- Australia: Venturi Wireless said it signed an agreement with pre-WiMAX network operator Unwired Australia to provide its V5000 Optimization Engine and VClient computer optimization software.
- Libya and Kyrgyzstan: EION Wireless said it has been chosen for nationwide WiMAX network expansions in Libya and Kyrgyzstan. The value of the combined contracts is more than $3.1 million.
- Russia: Nortel Networks said it is providing Golden Telecom a solution for launching a mobile WiMAX field trial in Moscow based on the company’s technology.
- Taiwan: Proxim Wireless Corp. said its Tsunami MP.16 base stations and subscriber units have been chosen by Asia Pacific Telecom Group as the core communications platform in Taichung.
Miscellaneous
- Croatia: LGC Wireless said it won a contract to provide an in-building wireless system to Vipnet, a mobile operator in Croatia, to provide coverage in the company’s headquarters in Zagreb. The system provides GSM and UMTS service throughout 100,000 square feet of space including seven floors of the building and two underground parking levels.
- United Kingdom: Motorola Inc. said it won a seven-year framework contract to support the Fire and Rescue Services in England, Scotland and Wales through O2 Airwave’s TETRA network.

United States: M/A-Com said its Trunked P25IP radio communications system has been deployed in Washington by the Army’s Director of Information Management. The system represents phase one of the NCR project and will link more than 5,000 federal personnel and up to 58 public-safety agencies in and around the region.

Worldwide: Crystal Cruises said it plans to launch SeaMobile cellular service aboard its Symphony and Serenity ships.
